Bonding & Porcelain Veneers After Orthodontics
This was a joint orthodontic-restorative case, with Invisalign alignment carried out by Dr Amit Patel before the restorative work began. Once the teeth were well-aligned, minimal composite bonding was used on the two central incisors, the right lateral and the canine to fine-tune shape and bring the smile into symmetry.
The remaining lateral incisor was different: it was peg-shaped and already carried an old porcelain restoration, which meant the tooth underneath had previously been prepared — some of its natural enamel already removed to accommodate that earlier work. On a tooth in that state, porcelain is generally the better choice over composite: it behaves more like natural enamel and restores strength closer to the tooth's original strength, which composite bonding, added directly onto a prepared surface, doesn't replicate as well. The old porcelain was removed and a new single-tooth porcelain veneer made to blend precisely into the rest of the smile.
The result combines both approaches where each makes the most sense — composite bonding for the teeth that only needed minor, additive refinement, and porcelain for the one tooth whose history called for it.
