Single Front Crown Replacement — Matching Shape & Symmetry
Matching a single central incisor to its natural neighbour is one of the most technically demanding restorations in dentistry — get the shade, shape, texture or translucency even slightly wrong and the tooth stands out rather than disappears. This case had an added layer of difficulty: the old crown was failing, and uneven gum margins were making the tooth look too short and out of proportion with the rest of the smile.
Treatment started with removing the old crown and gently lasering the gum to level the margin, then allowing 8 to 12 weeks for the tissue to heal and settle into its new shape before the final crown could be made. During that time, a well-made, comfortable provisional held the position and did the job of a real tooth — shaped and finished to look and function like the permanent restoration, not a stopgap to get through quickly. That's deliberate: rushing a case like this works against the biology, and a provisional that looks and holds well properly means there's no pressure to shortcut the healing time gum tissue actually needs. Only once everything had settled was the final crown made — matched to the adjacent central not just in shade, but in shape, surface texture and translucency, so it reads as part of the smile rather than a replacement tooth.
