Upper 4 Incisors — Crowns Blended to Match
Three front crowns and one veneer had become unsightly and needed replacing — but the real complexity underneath was a grey line at the gum and a dark shadow showing through the root area, the classic sign of old metal in a smile. That greyness can come from more than one place at once: an old crown margin exposed as the gum recedes over time, a metal-ceramic crown's internal metal frame showing as a dark line right at the gum edge, a metal post inside the tooth casting a shadow through the gum in the shape of the root, or a crown that simply doesn't extend far enough into the gum sulcus to fully cover the darker tooth structure underneath.
Zirconia crowns were chosen specifically for their ability to mask all of that — opaque enough to block the grey and dark shadowing coming through, rather than just covering it with another thin layer that would let the same problem show. The new crowns were designed to sit biologically against the gum for a stable, healthy fit, made uniform in colour and finish across all four teeth, and reshaped to correct proportions that had drifted with the old, mismatched restorations.
